Lysine is an essential amino acid that the body cannot produce and must connect to a food source.

It is involved inter alia in bone growth, collagen and antibody formation, and carbohydrate metabolism.

Lysine inhibits the growth of the herpes simplex virus and prevents infections that can cause (herpes and genital herpes).

Lysine can help prevent osteoporosis by promoting calcium absorption and retention in the body.

According to Linus Pauling and his assistant Mathias Rath, lysine supplementation in combination with vitamin C can significantly reduce and relatively rapidly reduce atherosclerotic plaque.

This association prevents lipoproteins (a) and (b) from building up on the walls of the arteries and dissolves the existing plate, recovering gradually into the bloodstream.

Proteins are made up of individual amino acids and are long-chain molecules.
