Use during pregnancy and lactation

The use of the drug in the first trimester of pregnancy is not recommended. In clinical and experimental studies, it was not found that the use of clotrimazole during pregnancy has a negative effect on the health of women and the fetus. However, the question of the advisability of prescribing the drug in the II and III trimesters of pregnancy should be decided individually after consulting a doctor. The possibility of excretion of clotrimazole with breast milk has not been studied. Therefore, Kanizon Plus, cream for external use should be used with nursing mothers with caution.

For children, the drug is prescribed only according to strict indications and under medical supervision, because possible development of systemic side effects associated with betamethasone. When applying Kanizon Plus cream, like many other topical preparations based on glucocorticosteroids, on large surfaces and / or with an occlusive dressing, it is possible to suppress the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, a decrease in growth hormone excretion, as well as an increase in intracranial pressure, can be observed.

Composition

1 g of cream for external use contains:

Active substances: betamethasone dipropionate 640 mcg, clotrimazole 10 mg, gentamicin sulfate 1 mg.

Dosage and administration

Canizon Plus cream should be applied with a thin layer to the entire affected surface of the skin and surrounding tissue 2 times a day - in the morning and at night. To ensure the effectiveness of the treatment, Kanizon Plus cream must be used regularly. The duration of therapy depends on the size and location of the lesion, as well as patient reactions.

If clinical improvement does not occur after 3-4 weeks of treatment, this may serve as a reason for clarifying the diagnosis.

Side effects

Very rarely when using Kanizon Plus cream, there are: burning sensation, erythema, exudation, pigmentation and itching.

Adverse reactions encountered with local glucocorticosteroids (especially with occlusive dressings): burning sensation, itching, dry skin, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acne, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, maceration of the skin, development of a secondary infection, atrophy of the skin, striae, prickly heat.

Adverse reactions due to clotrimazole: erythema, tingling sensation, blisters, peeling, local edema, itching, urticaria, skin irritation.

Adverse reactions due to gentamicin: transient skin irritation (erythema, pruritus), usually not requiring discontinuation of treatment.

Drug Interaction

When used with Kanizon Plus with antifungal drugs in other groups, the effectiveness of these drugs used externally decreases. The use of gentamicin can lead to the over-rapid growth of non-susceptible (highly resistant) microorganisms, including fungi. If superinfection occurs within the therapeutic course of treatment with gentamycin, the drug should be discontinued and a course of appropriate therapy prescribed.

overdose

Symptoms: Long-term use of topical glucocorticosteroids at high doses may suppress adrenal function with development of secondary adrenal insufficiency and symptoms of hypercorticism, including Cushing's syndrome.

Clotrimazole overdose with topical use does not lead to any symptoms.

With a single overdose of gentamicin, no symptoms are expected.

Prolonged gentamicin treatment at high doses can lead to increased insensitive flora.

Treatment: symptomatic. Acute symptoms of hypercorticism are usually reversible. If necessary, correct the electrolyte imbalance. In the case of chronic glucocorticosteroid toxicity, gradual withdrawal of glucocorticosteroids is recommended.
